tech tip on detroit treutrac rear differential

when using a eaton detroit truetrac limited slip it is highly recommened to use a mineral based oil , and do NOT use synthetic oil , if you use synthetic oil it can cause the truetrac to not function up to its full capacity

8.2" BOP buick olds pontiac rear differential

in the 1964-1971' buick , olds , and pontiac rear differentials , they use a 8.2" differential but it is differential than the CHEVY GM 8.2" , the BOP's use a different setup , the axles , posi traction unit , wheel bearings , seals , etc are totally different from the GM 8.2" here is a part list for the BOP 8.2" set up , 19674-010 is the eaton posi for the 8.2" bop , the motive gear axles are MG27131 , the rear wheel seals are 8594S national , the timken bearing kit is DRK321HMK, the rear wheel bearings are RW507CR timken / industry #

GM 8.5" GM 8.625" differential bearing options

on the GM 8.5" and GM 8.625" there is sometimes some confusion over wich differential bearings and races to use , the 1999' and older ( any truck with rear DRUM brakes ) use the smaller OD 2.89" bearings and races , LM102911 x 2 , LM102949 x 2 , the 1999' and newer trucks use the larger bore bearings and races , LM603012 x 2 , LM603049 x 2 , these are the trucks with rear disc brakes

quiet running gears for the GM 8.5" and GM 8.625"

when it comes to the GM 8.5" and GM 8.625" ring and pinion sets , noise seems to be an issue with most manufacturers , especially in van applications , there seems to be more howling for these ring and pinions that any other type , we have found from our experience that only 1 brand makes totally quiet gears for this application , wich is the OEM manufacturer AAM american axle , they are the OEM supplier of these gears to GM , we carry the AAM brand gears to learn more about them go to http://www.powertodeliver.com/

ford 8" trac lok locker and truetrac bearings

when converting a standard open / non posi ford 8" rear differential over to a trac lok / clutch style posi , or a detroit locker / detroit truetrac , you will need different bearings for any tractiomn style differential the part #s for these bearings are LM102949 , x 2 will be needed , and the bearing races are LM102910 x 2 will be needed , most catalogs do not reference this change in bearings , we stock both of these bearing #s in Timken brand

Nissan Titan rear differential problem fix

for anyone who has the nissan titan 2004-2007' with the M226 ( 32 spline dana 44 ) rear differential , that axle has a tendency to get the axle vent plug jammed up and it ruins the differential in the rear , the best and most econimcal replacement for that rear diff is the Eaton detroit truetrac helical gear limited slip diff part # 913A582 wich is a part we stock , that unit is a performance aftermarket gear driven limited slip , and is much cheaper than buying a whole new rear axle wich is what the nissan dealer tells people they have to do

dodge / gm AAM 11.5" rear differential

the GM / Dodge AAM 11.5" rear axle share almost all of the same parts in the rear axle , the posi tractions / limited slips are the same ,the bearing kits are the same , some of the parts that differ between the 2 of them are the axle shafts , ( SRW and dually use different axle shafts ) , and the spyder kits for the open carriers differ also , but largely the axles are the same ,

chrysler 9.25" rear differential identification

for anyone trying to figure out if they have a chrysler 9.25" rear differential , a very simple way to sell is to go take a look at the actual diff cover , if the cover is shaped exactly like a stop sign , then you have the 9.25" rear axle

ford 8.8" and chrysler 9.25" ring and pinion notched cross pin

for anyone who is familiar with the issue with the Ford 8.8" and Chrysler 9.25" rear differentials , with ring and pinions geared 4.56 and numerically higher ( 4.56 and 4.88 ) , there are 2 schools of thought on these , the first being actaully grinding material off the cross pin that holds the gears in the diff carrier , and the 2nd being buying a notched cross pin that is made with a notch in the cross pin , after much discussion with some of our suppliers we have found they all seem to agree that buying a notched cross pin is a better choice , than griding / machining the existing cross pin , some believe that maching the cross pin compromises the integerity of the cross pin , and there is no widely accepted amount that needs to be machined off the pin , plus it would be a giant pain , and probably cost more than the cost of a factory notched pin , to take it and have it professionally machined

Dodge AAM 9.25" differential 3.42 gear re ratio issue

Today we discovered that when re ratioing a Dodge 9.25" AAM front axle from any ratio , 3.73 , 4.10 , 4.56 ,down to a 3.42 ratio , ( this only applies to 2008' and older ) if ratioing down to a 3.42 ratio gear set from any of the ratios listed in the 2008 and older front axles , you MUST switch out the differential <
